Warwickshire County A A encourages cooperation and determination to move athletics forward together.  Apart from providing competition we are happy to be a conduit between clubs and all agencies trying to innovate and make things flow.

‘the bear’ aims to keep as many as possible in the picture – mailing, copy, website, e-mail facility.  You are the next in line, so please use this news sheet to communicate with as many as possible.   Thanks

 

First, an apology that this edition comes to you a little later than anticipated.  Remaining 2006 issues should go out in mid-late October, November.

 

1                     UKA MEMBERS COUNCIL 

       It is hoped clubs have voted for representatives and Warwickshire County A A is very pleased Bill ADCOCKS, Coventry Godiva Harriers Secretary, is amongst the five candidates.

Bill, formerly World class athlete, administrator at several levels and no shrinking violet, has excellent credentials.  Further his posts with BAF, UKA (Information Officer, facilities)will have given him an important insight.  We hope you will support Bill’s candidature.  Above all PLEASE VOTE  and before 29th September.

 

2                     MIDLANDS  WEST REGIONAL COUNCIL

      Stewart BARNES and Graham HEELEY are about to attend their third Council meeting.  Stewart has already visited some clubs to explain how he can be of service to you and invites opportunities to visit others (01926 – 512810)

 

3                     COUNTY A A MEETINGS

The Association’s Officers met in July, early September and next meet on 9th October.

The Promotions Group have met in both July and September.

The Development Group- Your commitment needed – meet at Coventry on Wednesday 4th October (7.00pm.)

The Warwickshire County A A General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 27th September (7.30pm) at Royal Sutton Coldfield A C Clubhouse.  Please give support by your attendance.

4                     OFFICIALS

Your attention is drawn to the LEVEL TWO course on Sunday 5th November at Exhall Grange School.  Flyer enclosed.  Details circulated and posted on website (www.warwickshirecountyaa.co.uk)       THE NEED FOR RECRUITMENT HAS NEVER BEEN GREATER!   

Margery EWINGTON, Warwickshire County AA President Elect and Officials Secretary, is also willing to arrange a course for potential Road and Cross Country Officials.   Please contact her (024 7631 4990) if you can offer interested candidates.

 

5                     COUNTY TEAMS

Not the best of years for Warwickshire but our Under 13s Under 15s again won their annual fixture at Derby on 9th September: -

1st   Warwickshire                500 points               2nd    Derbyshire               473 points

3rd   Lincolnshire                438                         4th     Nottinghamshire      399

5th   Humberside                 373.5                      6th     South Yorkshire       371.5

7th   Leicestershire              246

Under 15 Girls – Track – Emma SPRAGG (Solihull & Small Heath)

Under 15 Boys – Track – Robert OGILVIE (Coventry Godiva)

Under 15 Boys – Field – Reece THOMAS (Birchfield)

6                     ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Rowheath 5km event in July went well with winners: -

Alistair SMITH (Senior Men) – Adrian ISZATT (Men Over 40) – Graham LAWRENCE (Men Over 50) – Gordon ORME (Men Over 60)

Carol ADAMS (Senior Women  an Women Over 35) – Heather FOOKS (Women Over 45) Ann KIRKHAM (Women Over 55)

This year’s series finishes with the RUGBY TEN MILES on Sunday 16th OCTOBER.

 

The FIRST 2007 Championship will be the STRATFORD HALF MARATHON on SUNDAY 29th APRIL.

 

7                     CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS – SATURDAY 6th JANUARY 2007

At Newbold Comyn, Royal Leamington Spa.

Forms for copying will be issued with October’s ‘the bear’, but prospectus/entry forms can be downloaded from our website as from the first week in October.

The Promotions Group are already looking to 2008.  Can you offer a venue?

 

Finally we’re at the end of summer 2006,so  to all who enjoyed success, congratulations!

Pleasing that BIRCHFIELD HARRIERS and RUGBY AND NORTHAMPTON retained their B A L League status and reached the Cup Final.

Whatever your level, age, category, aspirations we hope all have derived the incentive to go one better in 2007.
